Position Summary
The Proposal Writer is responsible for research and analysis, supporting the development, coordination, writing, and submission of high-quality funding proposals, capital project applications, infrastructure submissions, and grant opportunities that support the strategic priorities of Noojmowin Teg Health Centre (NTHC). This position plays a key role in securing funding to enhance health services, facilities, community programming, technology, and organizational growth across the organization and the seven member First Nations communities on/off reserve served by NTHC.
The Proposal Writer works collaboratively with leadership, program managers, finance, facilities, external partners, and community stakeholders to identify funding opportunities and prepare compelling, culturally grounded, and evidence-based submissions. The role supports a wide range of initiatives including capital expansion projects, infrastructure development, health transformation initiatives, equipment funding, program enhancement grants, Anishinabek health initiatives, and community-based funding opportunities.
The successful candidate will possess strong writing, research, project coordination, and analytical skills, along with the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Research, identify, and monitor federal, provincial, municipal, Anishinabek, grant and private-sector funding opportunities relevant to NTHC operations and strategic priorities
- Lead the development and writing of grant applications, capital funding submissions, infrastructure proposals, business cases, briefing notes, and supporting documentation
- Research, analyze and Coordinate proposal development, timelines and ensure all submissions meet funding requirements, deadlines, and compliance standards
- Collaborate with leadership, program managers
,finance, facilities, and external partners to gather information, budgets, statistics, program outcomes, and supporting documentation required for submissions - Prepare compelling narratives that clearly communicate organizational needs, community impacts, strategic priorities, and measurable outcomes
- Assist with the development of capital and infrastructure proposals related to facilities, equipment, technology, service expansion, and community development initiatives
- Support organizational strategic planning initiatives by aligning funding opportunities with operational and short to long-term priorities
- Develop and maintain a centralized grant tracking system including submission deadlines, reporting obligations, award status, and renewal opportunities
- Prepare post-award reporting documentation, funding accountability reports, and progress updates as required by funding agencies
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with funding agencies, Anishinabek organizations, government representatives, and community partners
- Assist in gathering data, demographics, health indicators, and organizational metrics to strengthen funding applications
- Collaborate with leadership and finance to develop accurate project budgets and financial justifications for submissions
- Maintain knowledge of current trends, priorities, and emerging funding opportunities within Anishinabek health, infrastructure, capital development, and community wellness sectors
- Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and organizational initiatives as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive organizational information appropriately
- Support the integration of culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches within all written submissions and communications
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Public Administration, Anishinabek Studies, Business Administration, Health Administration, Political Science, English, or a related field
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in grant writing, proposal development, funding coordination, or related experience
- Demonstrated experience preparing successful grant applications, capital funding submissions, or infrastructure proposals
- Experience working within Anishinabek organizations, healthcare, non-profit, or community-based environments is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Anishinabek health funding structures, government funding streams, and capital infrastructure processes is considered an asset
- Strong written communication, editing, proofreading, and research skills
- Exceptional organizational and project management abilities with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines simultaneously
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, values, and communities is considered an asset
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation may be required
Working Conditions
- Combination of office-based and occasional community-based work
- Extended periods of computer and desk work
- Occasional travel to partner communities, meetings, or funding-related events may be required
- Ability to work flexible hours on occasion to meet submission deadlines
