Position Summary
The IT Intern provides day-to-day technical and administrative support to Noojmowin Teg Health Centre (NTHC), assisting with the effective operation of the organization’s information technology systems, equipment, and digital resources. Working under the direction of the appropriate Manager/designate, the IT Intern will provide frontline technical support to staff, assist with the setup and maintenance of computers and other technology, maintain accurate IT inventory and documentation, and support routine technology-related projects and initiatives. This position provides an opportunity to develop practical experience in an organizational IT environment while contributing to reliable, secure, and effective technology services across NTHC.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support and Troubleshooting
  • Provide first-level technical support to employees experiencing routine hardware, software, network, printer, peripheral, and connectivity issues.
  • Respond to IT support requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot common computer and application issues and escalate more complex matters to the appropriate IT resource.
  • Assist employees with basic use of organizational technology, applications, and equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting of meeting room technology, audiovisual equipment, printers, scanners, and other office technology.

2. Computer and Equipment Setup
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, monitors, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals.
  • Prepare technology and equipment for new employees and assist with equipment collection and processing when employees leave the organization.
  • Install approved software and updates as directed.
  • Assist with routine equipment maintenance and replacement.
  • Ensure equipment is appropriately labelled, documented, and assigned.

3. User Accounts and Systems Support
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of employee technology accounts and access under appropriate supervision and authorization.
  • Support basic Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Assist with password resets, account access issues, and other routine user-support requests within established procedures.
  • Support organizational applications and systems within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Escalate access, security, privacy, or system issues as required.

4. IT Inventory and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of computers, mobile devices, peripherals, software, and other IT assets.
  • Assist with tracking equipment assignments, returns, replacements, warranties, and lifecycle information.
  • Maintain organized IT documentation, including setup instructions, troubleshooting guides, equipment records, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in identifying outdated, damaged, or surplus equipment and coordinate appropriate disposition as directed.

5. Cybersecurity and Privacy Support
  • Follow NTHC policies and procedures relating to information security, privacy, confidentiality, acceptable technology use, and access controls.
  • Assist with routine cybersecurity activities as directed, including software updates, device compliance, security awareness initiatives, and documentation.
  • Promptly report suspected cybersecurity incidents, privacy concerns, phishing attempts, lost devices, or unauthorized access.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee, client, organizational, and system information accessed through the course of duties.

6. IT Projects and Organizational Support
  • Assist with technology upgrades, equipment replacements, system implementations, office moves, and other IT projects.
  • Support testing and implementation of new hardware, software, and technology solutions as assigned.
  • Assist with preparing user guides, instructions, and other technology resources for employees.
  • Participate in technology-related meetings, training, and projects as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve routine IT processes, documentation, and user support.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position.


Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a post-secondary program in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Computer Science, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience setting up or troubleshooting computers, printers, mobile devices, and other technology is an asset.
  • Previous IT help desk, technical support, co-op, internship, or related experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, community-based, or Indigenous organization is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.
  • Primarily office-based, with regular computer and technology-related work.
  • May require movement between workstations, offices, or NTHC locations to install, troubleshoot, or retrieve equipment.
  • May occasionally require lifting and moving computer equipment and related technology.
  • Some flexibility in hours may be required to support scheduled technology upgrades or organizational needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactory criminal record check, where required by NTHC.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation may be required depending on assigned duties and work locations.
  • Must comply with all NTHC policies and procedures, including requirements relating to privacy, confidentiality, information security, and workplace conduct.

Compensation

$21.00 - $23.00 per hour
